Nic posted all the details of the rapes that have taken place in our suburb. These posts are alarm bells, and we should heed them.
Nic is absolutely correct.
The neglect of our suburb has been near-criminal.
Now it has led to criminal consequences.
Nic and I disagree often, but there can be absolutely no doubt that the deliberate or casual neglect of properties has caused devastating consequences.
He and I have said repeatedly that neglected properties become absolute magnets for crime.
As an example, I have advised over and over again that the discarded and neglected warehouses behind me have been used to process Telkom cable. That the long grass allowed robbers to strike at will around us. I have cut the long grass for three years, at a personal cost of R100 000. I have offered to tear down the warehouses, which are vandalised every night. I get nowhere.
I and other members of CPF fought a relentless battle to keep 78 Clulee and other neglected properties free of dumping and crime.
Zero response from landowners. They know who they are.
Folk, one rape, one robbery, one attempted robbery, one burglary, one attempted burglary, one murder is too much. Every one of these activities diminishes us all.
The guiding principle in Linbro Park, as in the rest of South Africa, should be this, and I deliberately capitalise:
HUMAN RIGHTS ARE INDIVISIBLE. WHATEVER I DO TO UNDERMINE THE HUMAN RIGHTS OF ANOTHER PERSON, EITHER DELIBERATELY OR THROUGH NEGLECT, CAN NOT BE TOLERATED AND MUST BE CHANGED, AND I MUST BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR MY NEGLECT.
If anyone were robbed, raped, burgled, attacked, murdered or in any other way had their rights undermined through the management of my property, I would take the necessary action. It would be my only priority. And I would be so ashamed I would make restitution.
Countries like New Zealand, Australia, the Scandinavian territories and Canada have got this right.
Why can't we?
As an example, if anyone in Christchurch were seen to so much as move within a no-go zone after the earthquake, they were arrested, processed and jailed, with not a second thought. You mess with the system, the system takes care of you.
Steff correctly says that money now rules our suburb.
Where has the compassion gone?
Whatever anyone says about me, at any time, in any shape or form, and I actually don't care, I am a libertarian and I believe in the supreme rights of every person. I utterly stand up for the underdog and will campaign for their rights, given my time and availability (bills must be paid). There comes a time to say enough is enough, and let's take out the trash.
I am so disappointed in those who have simply looked the other way, and they know who they are.
Get going, folks. One rape is one rape too many!
Utterly outrageous.
Frank
PS: I will post this to my blog. I will work with Nic, anyone, to stop this monstrous outrage. Let us combine our forces to find the swine and take them out.
PSS: I am mobilising the media. Nic was contacted by 702 and others because of me, and among us we will stop this nonsense. Please take the calls, Nic. You know more about this stuff than anyone else.
PSSS: I am awake at this time of night as I simply cannot sleep due to my distress at what has happened. Rape is the third worst crime that can occur against another human being. Murder and paedophilia are No 1 and 2.
Addendum: Instead of agreeing to work with me, Nic says he will see me in court. Fathom that logic, if you can.
