The recent spate of power outages across Gauteng has been attributed to increased cable theft cases as well as network overloading as a result of illegal connections.

Eskom and City Power denied during a joint media briefing in Soweto on Tuesday that they were planning to reintroduce load shedding, but urged communities to help fight electricity theft as the two utilities strive to ease pressure on their networks.

Soweto, Orange Farm, Diepsloot, Noordgesig, Yeoville, Jeppestown, Lenasia, Florida and Rosettenville have been among areas affected by power outages recently.
