Electricity: what it's going to cost you

In a few days' time, the cost of electricity will soar. If you are on Eskom, as we are, you will pay R350 more for every R1 000 you currently spend.

This means, for most of us who pay around R5 000, we will now pay R6 750.

But spare a thought for those who are on City Power. Those who paid R5 000 will now have to pay R8 235, as the city has applied for a 22% tariff increase.

And there is absolutely no guarantee that load shedding or outages will be prevented.

Used to be you were guaranteed death and taxes. Now you are guaranteed extremely costly power.
