Back in 1974 I had the privilege of watching the late Eddie Barlow mastermind a sublime New Year's victory over Transvaal. He took five, Denys Hobson took five. The late Hylton Ackerman had scored an awkward 74 to set up the run chase. Archie Henderson, then the cricket correspondent for the Cape Times, reported on this fabulous victory. I was photographed embracing Eddie on the wicket, on the front page. Eddie then became a lifelong friend. He went on to coach Bangladesh with the same passion with which he embraced everything in life.
He would have crapped bullets yesterday.
78 all out.
